Explore New York: Corona, Queens [Registration Required]
11:00 am  |  Meet in Lobby of Kimmel Center
Join Explore New York...Explore the World to get to know and taste Corona, Queens. Twenty years ago Corona was a tense neighborhood. Longtime Italian residents were unwelcoming and at times downright violent toward newly arriving Latino immigrants. Today older Italian men and younger Latinos banter in a mix of Italian, Spanish, and English over lemon ices and games of bocce. A newer Mexican restaurant offers Italian Special tamales with peppers and sausage as a nod to the generations old Italian markets around the corner. Still Corona is a complex neighborhood, but mixed into the challenges it faces, it has its charm: rich street life, great food and triumphs as newer immigrants make their way in New York City just as the Corona residents of old did. Sign up here.
