Kollaboration New York Showcase 9


The 9th Annual Kollaboration New York Showcase 

Featuring guest performer Awkwafina, MC Jenny Yang, and our 6 finalists that have a chance to fly to LA to compete in the national Kollaboration Star show in October for a $10,000 grand prize.

"Kollaboration is an organization with an annual showcase produced entirely by Asian and Pacific Islander (API) professionals and students throughout the New York City area. We are proud to be part of the larger, nationwide Kollaboration movement which spans across twelve major cities across the US and Canada.

Our primary mission is “Empowerment through Entertainment,” and we are dedicated to providing API youth with a creative outlet to showcase their talents on stage. By hosting shows across the nation, Kollaboration seeks to gather diverse Asian American talent and bring their presence into mainstream media and the entertainment industry."

Welcome Week at NYU Washington Square is coming up - have you planned out your week?!  

"Our 'Welcome' programs occur at the start of both the Fall and Spring semesters and are intended for new first year and transfer students, as well as students visiting NYU Washington Square.  Our visiting or 'transitioning' population, includes (but is not limited to) participants in Fall and/or Spring in New York, Paths to Peace, Spring at Tisch, Global Liberal Studies students and NYU Abu Dhabi students who may be studying at Washington Square for a semester.  

At the start of the Fall semester, we invite students new to NYU Washington Square to join us for Fall Welcome Week; in the Spring, we offer Spring at the Square.  Both Welcome Week and Spring at the Square are designed to help you in your transition by complementing any required school or program orientations, advising sessions or other activities."

Social in Practice: The Art of Collaboration


"Hosted by the Department of Photography & Imaging at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and The Nathan Cummings Foundation, Social in Practice: The Art of Collaboration is an innovative exhibition curated by Deborah Willis, University Professor and Chair of the Department of Photography & Imaging, and Hank Willis Thomas, Photography & Imaging alumnus, class of 1998.

Focused on the use of community collaboration and activism in art making, the multimedia exhibition features artists, collectives and organizations based in New York and around the world. All projects presented in the exhibition share themes of community building and social activism and depend on collaboration to achieve their impact. Through portraiture, documentary photography, audio-visual installations, personal narratives and community initiatives, Social in Practice: The Art of Collaboration reflects a wide span of individuals' pursuits to use art as a platform for greater conversation."

Explore NY -- Explore the World

Next Stop...
Heart of Central Park, Manhattan!


What: Central Park is one of the most famous parks in the world and a place for any New Yorker to escape the busy concrete jungle.  Join us for a walking tour focusing on the history of the country's first landscape park.  On this east-west walk, you will see some of the Park's most well-known landmarks, including Bethesda Terrace, The Lake, and Strawberry Fields.  We will enjoy a light lunch after the tour.

When:  Saturday, July 12th, 11:00 AM 
(we will be back to Kimmel at approximately 3:00 PM)

Where:  Meet at NYU Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South, 11:00 AM.  Tour will be leaving from Kimmel at 11:10 SHARP!

Cost:  As always, this tour is free for NYU students.  This includes food and subway fare to and from campus.

4th of July Fireworks

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks are back (Friday from roughly 9:30 to 10pm). The Independence Day spectacle boasts more than 40,000 eye-popping explosives over the East River.

 
"Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, and baseball games, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States.
