On the Go: Navigating the Subway, Bus and Campus Transportation Systems

Come and learn what to do, what not to do, the cheapest way to ride, and how to make yourself the safest possible rider when you use New York City buses, subways, and trains. Long Island City was long thought of as just an industrial area across from midtown Manhattan. It was where cabs went to park and you maybe went once to check out the skyline. These days LIC is much more than breathtaking views of Manhattan. LIC has a budding art scene with MOMA's contemporary PS 1 and plenty of studios. Its also a Graffiti Mecca with Five Pointz attracting internationally known writers.Add to that world renowned DJ's and comedy clubs where future stars work out their material before hitting network television. Global Citizenship and Cultural Competence

How do we, as global citizens, understand each other? How do we respect our cultural differences? And how do we distinguish between universal standards, cultural standards, and personal standards? In the contemporary global world, these questions of cultural competence center of the moral significance of our shared citizenship. Join former Peace Corps volunteer and NYU faculty member, Heidi White, as we explore the meaning of cultural competency and consider our responsibility as global citizens. You will take a look at our own attitudes toward cultural difference from two points of view: ethno-centrism and ethno-relativism; you will analyze four levels of cultural awareness; and you will consider some of the fundamental elements of culture. Biking in the Big Apple: NYU Bike Share Safety

The NYU Bike Share offers you, NYU students, faculty, and staff, the opportunity to borrow a bike FREE of charge from any of our eight participating locations throughout campus. Whether you are a first time rider or an experienced cyclist we make sure that you get all of your safety questions answered, and enable you to take the city on by pedal.
