Prehealth Orientation Sessions

Thinking About a Career in Health Care?

"Acceptance into a professional program – whether medicine, veterinary science, dentistry or allied health – requires more than just a strong academic performance in select science courses. A prehealth advisor can work with you to design a plan blending your career aspirations, undergraduate pursuits, and personal strengths so that you can succeed as a well-rounded candidate. We encourage you to inform yourself of the opportunities and demands of the healthcare field by reviewing this website and utilizing the resources and personalized advising available in the Preprofessional Advising Center.

Our email listserv will keep you up-to-date on volunteer opportunities, research positions, and community service projects. We also offer programming on careers in the health professions, writing the personal statement, and the health professional school interview process. Stop by our office during our daily walk-in hours or make an appointment to discuss where your liberal arts education can take you."

* * Mandatory Check-in for Int'l Students * *

All new NYU international students must attend a mandatory check-in workshop with the OGS as soon as possible once you arrive to the United States.

This is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for F-1 and J-1 students, thus failure to attend a check-in workshop may jeopardize your ability to remain legally in the U.S. When workshops are scheduled, they will appear on the right-hand side of this page where you will then be able to sign-up for your preferred session.

Special note: J-1 students sponsored by other organizations (such as Fulbright) and dependents of F-1 and J-1 NYU students do not need to attend.

What to bring:

  • Passport
  • I-20 or DS-2019
  • Emergency contact information (U.S. and abroad)
  • Your dependent’s documents (if you have dependents)

Remember:

  • Workshops last approximately one hour.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early
  • Latecomers are not admitted.
For workshop times and to sign up, visit the OGS website here.
