NYU Women's Leadership Program: Mindfulness in Action

Dear All,

Here is another great opportunity you should check out!

NYU Women's Leadership Program: Mindfulness in Action
February 9, 16, 23; March 2, 2017 | 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM | 12 Washington Place
Application Deadline: January 16, 2017

Today it is more important than ever to empower women's leadership. Real progress depends on including the talents of our full population. Only when there is real equality, at all levels of society - from the home to the executive board room - can a population flourish both economically and culturally.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 51.5% of women in the United States workforce hold management, professional and related positions and yet only 4.2% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women. And in the age of digital technology, women only hold 26% of all tech jobs. Across sectors, there is a significant lack of representation when it comes to women in leadership roles.

It is vital to empower women with the tools to succeed as leaders. Starting on February 9th, Dr. Carmela Bennett hosts four student leadership development trainings for a select group of NYU women. The program will consist of experiential workshops focusing on Embodied Leadership, a bold new approach to learning to lead. Particularly significant for women leaders, this body/mind approach enables women to experience the body as a source of intelligence and power in ways that directly impact their ability to act with agency, develop a consistent voice, take a stand for self and others, and build the resilience to deal with ambiguity, complexity, and power dynamics. The program is customized to help women naturally develop a powerful leadership presence with the ability to match leadership styles to leadership challenges.

Participants will:

Develop deep self awareness
Build a more powerful leadership presence that is able to stay open, present, and connected under conditions of complexity and ambiguity
Access the intelligence of the mind/body system
Reduce stress and increase resilience by developing a greater range of actions
Work with historical issues of cultural and gender identity

Applications to join Dr. Bennet are now open, and will be accepted until Sunday, January 16th at 11:59PM EST.

Intergroup Dialogue Applications

Hi Everyone,

Check out this great opportunity sponsored by the NYU Center for Multicultural Education and Programs (CMEP)!

Application deadline is Sunday, January 22nd.

The Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) Program is a nationally recognized 1-credit undergraduate course that brings together small groups of students from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and gain new knowledge related to diversity and social justice.  Trained graduate students co-facilitate each course section.  Past section topics included the following: Race, Gender and Sexual Orientation, Faith and Sexual Orientation, Disability, and Race: Bi/Multicultural Identities.

The IGD Program is housed in the Center for Multicultural Education and Programs, and the course is housed in the Silver School of Social Work.  The IGD model focuses specifically on intergroup dynamics within the context of an institution of higher education while promoting awareness and change in intergroup relations at the individual, cultural, institutional levels.  The guiding assumption is that diversity is an institutional asset and can be used to enhance growth of the NYU community while also achieving specific educational outcomes.

The course is 10 weeks long and meets on Fridays from February 3 through April 12 (no class on March 10 & 17, the Fridays before and during Spring Break).  The course time is typically from 2-4 PM.

Access the IGD application for undergraduate students here.
