Thursday, April 25, 2016 5pm-8pm @ Founders Hall (NYC)

Need help with your writing? Join the Writing Affiliates who will be reading International Students' essays. They will provide constructive feedback and suggestions to improve your writing. We understand expressing oneself in a second language is extremely difficult especially when placed in classes with native speakers. So we are offering an opportunity and space for international students to interact with other members of NYU’s community.  Bring your current paper or project that you are working on to receive feedback & tips!

IMMIGRATION MATTERS

Want to invite family to commencement ceremonies?

Please review NYU's International Visa Request page in addition to our International Visitor page for instructions on how your family can secure entry into the US.

Graduating in Fall 2016 and think you might need to register part-time?

In order to stay legal in the US, all F-1 and J-1 students must register full-time (minimum 12 credits for most programs) or get approval from the OGS to register part-time. Special note for grad students: if you've registered for fewer than 12 credits or completed all coursework except a thesis, your department must indicate "full-time matriculation" in your record.

Want to work off-campus?

F-1 students need to learn about Optional Practical Training. See if you're eligible and how to apply before and after completing your program. Curricular Practical Training is another potential option for F-1 students. J-1 students should consider Academic Training. Head to one of our workshops to find out more.

PROGRAMS AND EVENTS

Graduating by the end of summer? Save the date for a celebration!

Celebrate with friends, family, and a view of Fifth Avenue, at the our annual Commencement Breakfast on Tuesday, May 17. A breakfast buffet will be served to start your commencement celebrations. You're welcome to invite any friend or family member, as long as they have valid photo ID. You can RSVP beginning May 2.

Are you a graduating student leader?

Every year, we present two awards to students that have positively influenced the international student community. They are the International Student Leadership Award (for international students) and the International Student Ally Award (for all NYU students). Ask a faculty or staff member to nominate you or a friend for this honor! Winners will be officially announced and presented with a gift at the Commencement Breakfast.

What's after OPT or Academic Training?

What are your US work options after Optional Practical Training or Academic Training? Come to a free immigration lawyer presentation to find out. Join Goldstein and Cheung LLP to discuss the most common visa categories and how you can build your career in the US. Remember to RSVP.

BEYOND GLOBAL SERVICES

Care about social justice and identity?

The Intergroup Dialogue program is a 1-credit course that teaches undergrad students issues related to diversity and social justice. It meets Fridays at 2pm, and is a good way to use your extra credits. Grad students are encouraged to become facilitators for this opportunity.

Are you a grad student of color or an ally?

Connect with grad students of color and their allies from across the campus community this Thursday, April 21 at 6pm. Free refreshments will be served. Don't forget to RSVP.

Did you hear about Asian Heritage Month?

Celebrate Asian heritage through events like a Cherry Blossom Festival, night market, Holi Hai, and of course free food. All events can be viewed on Facebook

NYU Ally Week Events

allyship (v.) is an active and consistent practice of unlearning and re-evaluating beliefs and actions, in which a person seeks to work in solidarity with a marginalized individual or group of people

What is Ally Week?

At a large urban institution with hundreds of micro-communities, it is often challenging to foster meaningful cross-cultural interactions. NYU Ally Week creates opportunities for students, faculty, and administrators to deepen their understanding of the experiences of others, and raise awareness of the individual and collective injustices that confront many in our society.

Working from an intersectional and intercultural understanding of oppression, the entire campus community will be challenged to examine stereotypes and prejudice through events, a photo campaign, pledge stations, and social media!

Click here for a list of Ally Week events!

CAS International Student Coffee Hour Watch the Brooklyn Nets!

CAS international students and students in the Academic Achievement Program (AAP) will be attending an NBA basketball game together on the evening of Wednesday, April 13.

The game will be at lively Barclays Arena in Brooklyn to watch the Brooklyn Nets take on the Toronto Raptors, one of the best teams in the entire league. The game will start at 8:00pm, although we’ll aim to arrive to the stadium earlier than that, so everyone can check out the excellent food options available.

If you are interested in attending the game, please respond to cas.internationalstudents@nyu.edu as soon as possible because tickets will go quickly! In your email, please provide your name and net ID.
