Halloween in NYC

What did you do for Halloween?

Halloween in the US is a celebration for people of all ages!  Typical activities include trick or treating, pumpkin carving, and haunted houses.

Last week at Coffee Hour, we discussed different traditions around the world and watched clips from horror films.  Did you know that the tradition of Halloween has roots in the Gaelic ritual of Samhain?  A big thank you to the International Student Club for hosting this discussion!

So what did you do or learn this Halloween?  Hopefully some of you went to the Village Halloween Parade.  It is definitely a unique New York tradition that should not be missed!

CONGRATULATIONS ISC!

Congratulations to the International Student Club, who won a 2013 President's Service Award for all of the amazing work they have done for the NYU international student community.

Elections: International Student Club

As the semester is coming to an end, the International Student Club (ISC) is looking ahead. They will be having an eboard election for the 2013-2014 Academic Year. Take this opportunity to show your leadership and get more involved with the international community. Consider applying for the following positions:

  • President: responsible for directing each initiative and generating ideas. S/he is the only person generally communicating with the board and delegating tasks. Requirements: CAS student; must be able to hold office for the entire year.
  • Vice-President: helps the president conduct his/her tasks, as well as generate ideas for events. S/he also helps with the execution of events and is generally involved with ISC members. Requirements: CAS student.
  • Community Service Chair: responsible for helping create community service events or informing the ISC about community service events they can participate in.
  • Secretary: responsible for recording minutes at the meetings, sending out notes to the members of the board, and handling other day to day responsibilities.
Ideal candidates for these positions are students who possess a strong sense of responsibility, have organized work habits, and a demonstrated commitment to the club. Relevant experience is a plus but is not required. Both international and American students are welcomed.

If you are interested in applying for one or more positions, please send a resume and a short paragraph to cas.international.club@nyu.edu by Wednesday, May 1, 5:00 pm.

Applicants are encouraged to come to the May 2nd International Coffee Hour (3:30-4:30 pm, Silver Center 907) to introduce themselves to the CAS international student community and to briefly present their candidacy.
