Authors Laila El-Haddad and Maggie Schmitt present an intimate perspective never offered in the media: how conflict and siege play out in the daily lives of ordinary people, and how people--particularly women--manage to create little spaces of vitality and joy in the midst of it all.

 

Come celebrate the launch of an exceptional work that provides rare insight into Gaza's culture and cuisine. A cookbook and more than a cookbook, The Gaza Kitchen: A Palestinian Culinary Journey brings together traditional recipes from the Gaza Strip based on extensive interviews with home cooks, and uses profiles of these cooks, as well as beautiful documentary photography to explore the history, economy and daily life of the territory.

Rubin Museum Visit

Last Friday, March 1, a group of NYU CAS International students joined CAS Advising Staff and the CAS International Student Club for a trip to the Rubin Museum of Art: Art of the Himalayas, including a guided tour of the new show, Modernist Art from India and some of the standing collection. It is an amazing museum with unique works and they are continuously bringing in special exhibits.

If you did not have a chance to join us this time, grab a group of friends and explore on your own...perhaps over spring break. It is free for all NYU students.

Dakar 2 NYC: Global Hip Hop Exchange

The panel will bring together artists, musicians, and scholars for a discussion of the role of hip hop as a tool for social change in the US and in Senegal. Following the panel and a brief reception, the concert will showcase Senegalese and US hip hop artists alongside a traditional Senegalese orchestra in an unprecedented fusion of African and African diasporic musical genres.
