Earthquake Relief for Nepal

NYU STUDENT AFFAIRS

NYU students from Nepal, the Student Senators Council, and University staff in the Office of Spiritual Life and the Center for Student Activities, Leadership and Service have worked together to coordinate an NYU Vigil for Nepal today in addition to establishing an NYU relief effort to assist families devastated by this terrible earthquake.

Tuesday, April 28, 2015, 5:00pm - 5:30pm | Kimmel Grand Staircase

Optional monetary donations will be collected immediately following the vigil.  NYU will be directing our fundraising efforts toward The Global Giving Nepal Earthquake Relief Fun, an initiative that is committed to both immediate disaster relief and long-term relief for Nepal earthquake victims.

THE RUBIN MUSEUM

Honoring Nepal
Ongoing | 150 West 17th Street

“The RubinMuseum of Art has deep institutional and personal connections with Nepal, its people, traditions, and material culture. The Museum’s collection of art, for example, includes almost 600 works of Nepalese origin. As devastating news and photographs continue to emerge from the region, the world is shocked at the effects of the earthquake.

The Rubin Museum’s mission is rooted in forging sustained connections, through art and ideas, to the Himalayan region. In that spirit, we extend our hearts and minds as Nepalese, and millions of others across the globe, confront the loss of life, injuries, and devastation to the built environment of the region.”

TSENG KWONG CHI @ The Grey Art Gallery

Combining photography with performance, personal identity with global politics, and satire with farce, Tseng Kwong Chi (1950–1990) created a compelling body of work whose complexity is belied by its humor and grace. Born in Hong Kong, raised in Vancouver, and educated in Paris, Tseng moved to New York in 1978, where he quickly became a key documentarian of Manhattan's vibrant downtown scene. He also began crafting the performative self-portraits—"selfies" avant la lettre—that form the backbone of his artistic practice, exploring the questions of personal and political identity that preoccupied many artists of his generation.

April 21 - July 11, 2015
@ The Grey Art Gallery | 100 Washington Square East
Featuring cutting-edge examples from Tseng’s archive that have rarely or never been shown, Tseng Kwong Chi: Performing for the Camera is the first major solo museum exhibition of his works, which have long sparked the imaginations of younger artists. Organized by the Chrysler Museum of Art and the Grey Art Gallery, NYU, the exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue.
