Pre-Professional Advising at CAS

The College of Arts and Science's Preprofessional Advising Center helps students who are thinking about law, the health professions (e.g., medicine, dentistry, etc.), business, or other professional training, to plan their education with these goals in mind and to decide how, when, and where to apply to professional school. Preprofessional advisors help students explore various professions, suggest related readings, provide statistical information about the probability of admission to selected schools, and assist with the application process. Co-curricular programs are also offered, including panels by professionals, resume writing and interviewing workshops, and internships.

______________________________________________________________

Attend an overview session:

Are you considering a health career? Would you like to talk about your plans with a preprofessional advisor? Join us for a prehealth overview! During these sessions, a member of the preprofessional advising staff will provide an overview of:
  • Prehealth academic requirements
  • Ways to develop your preprofessional portfolio and expand your extracurricular involvement
  • The application process for schools of the health professions

The session will be followed by a question and answer session so that you can get immediate responses to your prehealth questions.

A group overview will be your first touchpoint with our office and is a great opportunity to connect with other students in our prehealth community. The sessions will give you a foundation for what it means to be a prehealth student and will inform future individual meetings that you have with a member of our staff. Space at each overview session is limited, so reserve your seat as soon as possible.

GRINGO TRAILS is a feature-length documentary that raises urgent questions about one of the most powerful globalizing forces of our time: tourism. Spanning South America, Africa and Asia, the tourist pathway known as the “gringo trail” has facilitated both life-altering adventures and the despoiling of many once virgin environments. The film follows stories along the trail to reveal the complex relationships between colliding cultures: host countries hungry for financial security and the tourists who provide it in their quest for authentic experiences. Upcoming Tours with Explore NY!

"Discover the unique communities that make New York City unlike any other. Throughout the year, free guided tours will take you to vibrant neighborhoods far beyond Washington Square to experience new cultures, cuisines, and traditions that will deepen your appreciation for your new home."

Next up:

Bronx Street Art Tour
Saturday, October 11th

The New York Times says: "Here you will find a stretch of wall more than 200 feet long that has become an ever-changing canvas for many of the city’s most respected muralists and street painters. The site is overseen by TATS Cru, a group of veteran Bronx artists who were asked by the owner of a warehouse along Drake Street to, in essence, recruit good artists to keep the bad artists (or just scribbling vandals) at bay. The results, in a neighborhood that has become a wonderland of high-quality murals in recent years, are a visual feast.

Greenwood Cemetery & Park Slope
Saturday, October 18th

From the Greenwood Cemetery website: "Founded in 1838 and now a National Historic Landmark, Green-Wood was one of the first rural cemeteries in America. By the early 1860s, it had earned an international reputation for its magnificent beauty and became the prestigious place to be buried, attracting 500,000 visitors a year, second only to Niagara Falls as the nation’s greatest tourist attraction. Crowds flocked there to enjoy family outings, carriage rides, and sculpture viewing in the finest of first generation American landscapes. Green-Wood’s popularity helped inspire the creation of public parks, including New York City’s Central and Prospect Parks.
