United Nations Youth Assembly

UN Logo
On July 11th and 12th, NYU will have the honor of sending 150 delegates to a youth assembly at the United Nations. The assembly will focus on skill building, advocacy training, and educating about the goal of having all children in school and learning by 2015. It will culminate with a speech from Malala Yousafzai, who will celebrate her 16th birthday during the conference. Malala was shot at point-blank range for promoting girls' education, and is now a prominent voice among the global push for education and women's rights.

Our delegates, comprised of current students and recent alumni, come from a variety of backgrounds and hold various interests; they truly encapsulate the diversity of the university, as well as the breadth of individuals taking interest in this issue.

All those individuals affiliated with NYU that are 25 and under are eligible to attend this exciting event. To RSVP, email Jason.Brillon@tufts.edu with you full name, age, and preferred email address.

skyline of new york and newton creekkayakers on the river

There are few better ways to understand New York City than from the perspective of the waterways that built its commerce and industry. We'll launch from the heart of it all--Newton Creek--the oldest industrial waterway in America, the birthplace of the Civil War's Monitor, and later an oil spill 3 times larger than the Exxon Valdez, and now a Super Fund site. Despite all this, in recent months we have seen Dolphin, Seals, Egrets, Kestrals, and more. We;ll start with safety and paddle instruction, then spend an hour on Newton Creek and the East River with incredible skyline views. If conditions allow, we will eat our lunch on the water.

You will receive an email in return confirming your spot. ***You may sign up ONE friend but you MUST provide their net ID and phone number. We will not be able to accommodate non-NYU individuals.***

As always, all Explore New York, Explore the World trips are 100% free for NYU students! This includes food and subway fare to and from campus.

NYU's Student Resource Center offers an extensive Summer Break Guide, as well as weekly newsletters starting in June. Here is just a sampling of events happening in New York City this summer.

Celebrate Brooklyn!

One of NYC's longest running, FREE, outdoor performing Arts festivals, Celebrate Brooklyn! launched in 1979 as a catalyst for a Brooklyn perfoming arts scene and to bring people back to Prospect Park after years of neglect. Here is a selection of some upcoming shows:

Single Tickets: $17
Dance Floor Opens: 6:00 pm
Group Dance Lesson: 6:30-7:15 pm
